I started sweating while Harry Sarak's grandmother started to fan me with a handmade fan and I sprayed myself with Evian water. Harry Sarak's daddy just looked tired, while grandpa disappered to go to the bathroom. We all thought the customs officer had taken him away! We then waited to walk through the customs. I photographed Harry Sarak's red shoe by the "Wait Here" sign on the floor (to be used for another web piece called "Where are Harry Sarak's Shoes in Cambodia?"). I was so nervous that I left my declaration paper with the immigration agent, but I didn't realize it. I freaked out and pulled apart my little backpack. At that point, Harry Sarak's daddy said "Relax, just fill out another form." He went over to customs agent to get a form - but the agent grabbed his form. So we thought that we would all be detained ... All the while, we were waiting for the baggage with the rest of expectant parents in the group. Everyone was nervous. There were many other passengers in the baggage claim area, a melange of eastern/western languages, cultures, dress, and bags were waiting. People were grabbing luggage ... it was a free for all. Very confusing. Nothing like a Western airport . I felt like I was back in the 1950s. The heat was oppressive. There was a large group of Japanese tourists, all wearing straw hats with purple orchids. The scene was surreal. As we left the airport, I started to explain to the customs agent that I had left the form at the last past through but he bowed and let me through.
